I need some help with coming up with a mission statement for MS-Selfie. I proposed one earlier this week:
“Empowering people with multiple sclerosis to self-manage their disease and to ask the right questions."
Many people who subscribe to MS-Selfie find the information helpful. However, many of you are getting blowback from healthcare professionals (HCPs) when you mention your source of information. I don’t want MS-Selfie to be an alternative and confrontational source of information; I want it to be complementary. The management of MS needs to be a partnership between people with the disease and their families and HCPs.
I want MS-Selfie, which stands for MS self-management, to empower pwMS to self-manage their disease and to ask the right questions. Do you agree with this mission or not? Suggestions are welcome; nothing is set in stone. Thank you.
“Empowering people with multiple sclerosis to self-manage their disease and to ask the right questions."
Email suggestion:
Knowledge is power: Learn, Advocate, Improve ...
Unfortunately, it probably needs to be confrontational. Or rather, if your comments give patients the will and confidence to challenge orthodoxy or at least stop being doormats that's to the good, surely. No matter what your mission statement says, practitioners who are not up to the mark are bound to disagree.
